For our second Open Day event, we decided to make the most of the lovely weather in North London, and turned our outdoor space into an extension of the classroom.

The art activity we prepared was an exploration of primary colors and making secondary colors. It was fascinating to see the different reactions and creativity of the children that came to visit.

A lovely mural was the result of the activity made by children of different ages, from a 22-month old who was totally puzzled by the making of secondary colors inside bags, and the enjoyment of mixing and printing paint on paper, to the lovely figurative painting of a five year old. Children at different stages of development equally amazed by the activity! Onwards to planning our third Open Day event on 10 June…

One question that keeps coming up in our Open Days’ interactions is: what is The Montessori Method?

Giving a personal interpretation may deviate from the original, and since we are rather purists, at Unity Montessori, we thought it would be best to place here relevant literature, so interested parents can read and inform themselves about Montessori’s education system.

Project Gutenberg has digitalised some of the books by Maria Montessori, which can either be read online, or downloaded as eBook to Kindle / iBooks:

• Dr Montessori’s Own Handbook
• The Montessori Elementary Material

Within the Advanced Montessori Method:

• Pedagogical Anthropology by Maria Montessori
• Spontaneous Activity in Education

There are other books, that are integral part of Montessori’s education, and are required reading to better understand what The Montessori Method is about:
